Claude Danis, the man in charge of FIM homologation inspections, has confirmed that Barber Motorsports Park is a "probable" site for a 2008 World Superbike round. Danis has visited the track twice in the last four months and says that acceptable solutions to the last remaining problems have been found. These remarks were made last weekend at the Spanish round of World SBK at Valencia.

"Just as with Indianapolis and MotoGP," the Belgian FIM official said, "the safety issues have been dealt with. Now the circuit, both Indianapolis and Barber, need to carry out the work. Whether there will be races or not are matters to be decided between the rights holders, Dorna in MotoGP and FGSport in World Superbike."

Danis went on to say about Barber Motorsports Park, "The track owners are considering the possibility of making future modifications to lengthen the straight and this would be an improvement since the track doesn't let the Superbikes reach the sort of speeds that most tracks do, but that is not a safety consideration."

At present Zoom Motorsports, acting for the circuit, is at the early stages of negotiation with FGSport.

Paolo Flammini, CEO of FGSport, declined to comment on website reports coming out of the AMA race in Barber Motorsports Park today that a race was being planned for the Spring of 2008.
