Hard Numbers Horsepower ?

I'm sure this been discussed before but a search went no where...
Any good numbers for 2008 Cup car horsepower ?
I was just reading about Carl Edwards on this site and he claims 900 hp and 200 mph...
I got no problem with the speed but 900 hp ? How many cubes 348 ? or there abouts,
pushrods ,2 valves per cyl burning gasoline and turning 9000 rpm with a small 4 barrel ?
I not saying they are not but I've built some very hot big blocks ( not with those heads though ) and they didn't make 900 hp... Just curious that's all

Is Nascar headed towards 4 cylinders? Or an all Ford and Toyota class?

With the recent changes at GM and Chrysler and the direction of these companies towards small cars, electric, hybrids and everything small.
V8's are no longer going to be a focus in this economy or administration, where is NASCAR going to go in Five, ten years when V8 have no future?
Ford or Toyota, possibly Honda or some other foreign engine builder will continue to fill the void with V8's.
Will Fiat fill the void with Ferrari V8 in Nascar? Could we see Ferrari's running in Nascar?

Is Nascar really stock car racing?

How can nascar be stock car racing if all the cars are the same even though they're supposed to be different makes?...I guess it used to be stock car racing but not anymore. I have not seen any Toyota Camry or Ford Fusion on the streets with 8 cylinders engines or rear traction...So what kind of racing competition is nascar?...From what I see it is not stock car racing.

The “Grass” Comment

I just heard McReynolds make the comment "the grass accelerated the car." When will this misconception go away?

I remember debating this years ago with a well know eastern motorsports writer on Compuserve after Buddy Baker said the same thing (believe he was talking about Daytona before they took out the grass between turn 4 and the pits.)

I know it's silly, but the only way a car would accelerate on grass (or ice, or mud, or water) is if the driver is on the gas with the car pointed in a forward direction.
