It is time NASCAR says after this year no swapping points among their drivers to ensure starting spots.

Too late for this year as they already let Hornish/Busch do it but it needs to be done for 2009.

Theres a difference between doing in in December, and 6 races into the season.

If NASCAR hadn't let Penske swap points between Sam and Kurt, he would've just put Sam in the 2.

I doubt Miller would have been cool with losing their number they've had forever.

I don't know why Kyle keeps going in the car, maybe he feels he owes it to his son's legacy, maybe he promised himself to keep faith with that. I do know that WHEN Kyle wanted to race, he was pretty good. He planned to finally be able to step out of the car when his son got in. He was very happy to quit. I think there is way more behind this than we are privy to. Having said that he isn't doing himself or the name any good by doing something he obviously isn't doing very well. It's time to hang up the helmet and either put someone in the car as a development driver or park the car. I am a big believer in the family legacy in NASCAR, but as someone else said very well KB & DJ were a definite sign of reality. Get the old out of the way, cause here comes the new. AA JMHO

They aren't points swapping between drivers, but cars. It really isn't a big deal as you can use just about any number that isn't being used. You could change car numbers every week and the points would follow (the #32/#33 did it in Busch 4 years ago and the #36/#23 did it once last year).

I heard Pockrass this morning theorizing that Penske might swap the points again between the 2 and the 77. At some point I'd think that would be pretty demoralizing for the 2 crew.

I was for points swapping between teams within an organization, but with all the talk of mid-season switches I'm starting to change my opinion. blank stare

If this is even being seriously considered, I wouldn't be too happy if I were Kurt Busch and his team to see Penske favouring Hornish so much and throwing the 2 team's accomplishments to the 77 that's already crushed under the bus. But then Kurt would probably suck it up and say "it's for the good of the organization".

What would be funny is if Busch went on to win the Championship yet Penske still wouldn't have an owners championship...

My point was fine if Penske wants the 2 cars points prior to the season to lock in Hornish make him put him in the 2 car. It makes a mockery of the sport to be able to simply switch the owner points around multiple times a year to ensure all drivers make a race.

That would be like an NBA player getting his 6th foul and switching jerseys with a teammate and going back in.

Kyle is diminishing the Petty legacy and that is a shame.
the "Petty legacy" has been diminished since well before 1984, Richard's last win... the team is currently on the rise from their depths of about 2 years ago...the "legacy Team", the 43, is the whole focus, and they have made significant improvement... not the 45, whose focus is just staying in place to race until Kyle is tired of it...kyle showed at Watkins Glen that he still has the passion to race, and it is his right to continue until he is ready to quit, or no longer can qualify... racing is in his blood, and hard to let go of...rf

He does need to step back and put a driver in who can win... His time was over long ago .... even before his son was lost on the track. But as long as he can qualify he will be there... it is very sad what Kyle has come to... I truly like him... I don't there there any better PEOPLE in any of the other cars...

Why should Bobby suffer for Kyles suckyness? The 43 and Bobby are on the verge of top 10/12 in points.

They rationalize it becausee Bobby doesn't lose his driver points - it's the owner points that are swapped.
