Is it just me or do you guys think the new 2010/11 chassis needs a shark-fin like the current F1 Renault, Red Bull and 1996 Reynard Chassis had.

from a marketing standpoint I would think it would be a really good idea.

The jury is still out on the effectiveness of the shark fin in F-1 McLaren tried on @Hockenheim in testing without much effect. It dosen't appear to have helped Renault much either. If your looking for a billboard then that's different

Credit should go to the Penske chassis from '94 actually.... Everything else is just an imitation.

Roger put it on his 94 Indycar to hide pushrod Indy engine tested that year. That was the engine Al Jr won the '94 race. That engine was slightly larger and required lager bodywork.

TG banned the engine, it was never legal in CART. I think Roger had already fab'd a few dozen cranks for customer engines for the '95 race when the ban was announced. Ironically, Roger's cars weren't fas enough to qualify for the '95 race.

It would provide more space for sponsor logos which is good.

Somehow I doubt that anyone from A1GP has been reading our discussions, but their new car will have the "fin" for the vary reasons we are discussing.

Yea I saw that, although not as 'cool' looking as the Renaults, its still a sharkfin.

Ladies and gentlemen, what I have to say will rock your world. I like the shark fin!

I think it would reduce spins on ovals, thus reducing cautions. It's win-win.

The early 1970s Ferrari had it too.

I'm not sure if there'd be enough aerodynamic force on the fin to prevent a spin, unless the driver were right on the edge of catching the car anyway. If I understand the role of the fin correctly, its more to keep the air moving longitudinally and guide the air over the rear wing.

BTW, I do think that it would be a good idea to include them in the new chassis from a marketing standpoint. Not to be a total shill, but without advertisers paying to be on the cars, there would be no cars at all.
