Hi CatManDo , I can't say that I ever heard of flow timing. I have seen a flow bench and how intake manifold and cylinder heads are flow tested, it was for a mechanical injected engine. I'm about 30yrs. behind the times. I worked as a mechanic and I worked with a lot of mechanic's but I was really lucky to work with one of the best ever. In diagnostic, mechanical or electrical. Diagnostic's is where we made the most money even though at that time it did not pay much.

smile I just had to throw that in to get you scratching your head. Flow timing and (and pin timing) are methods used for injection timing on some diesels, particularly Cats. smile What can I say? I'm a Cat lover! Now, if I could just get the Cat litter out of my garage....

Howdy Cat-Man-Do ; I trust your having a great Labor Day weekend. I worked on new pipe line construction for natural gas and that was the only way to go . I was a welder but filled in for loader, hoe, and dozing work at times. My work truck was a company bought GMC step-van with a Quadra-jet 350 with a 3-speed auto-matic. They bought 3 of those fine piece's of junk and at 25,000 miles they were junk , we used them as tool trucks. Someone in the company garage took out the 350 and installed a Cummins 6cyl. 175hp with the same old tranny and the Cummins people did all the work so I figured the tranny would hold up but I had my doughts after driving it from the Cummins people around Detroit to Grand Rapids, maybe 150 miles with the same 456 diff. gear ratio.
Now the truck is stripped down and all alumin and ran from 0 to 70 in 5 seconds but 75 was toppped out. The hole-shot was unbeliveable and needless to say about a month later we got a new tranny from some shop in Ohio and ran fine until I was retired and maybe still is. I have not worked since July-10th-2001 and everyday I wish I was healthy enough to work. If I say anymore it will probable sound like I'm crying. I not only lost my CDL but also my car operating license too boot. They should of cut my man-hood off (not really) that is all whats left. My mind is as sharp as a ever, (maybe thats it ) but really I have it made it is just hard to get use to. It could always get worse. Hell I remember waiting to go on vaction for a few days and now my life is a vaction all the time. I not only lost my privledge to drive a car but also my motorcycle endorsement, what the hell I guess I cannot have everything.

Later Cat

Sounds like you have had some tough breaks. I know I certainly wouldn't want to lose the ability to drive. I would imagine that a computer and the Internet are a blessing for you. There have been a number of pick-up conversions to diesel. The Cummins 6BTA is an excellent choice, and that sounds like what was put in the truck you describe. It's the same engine used by Dodge, even though the current designation has changed. In '76 I had a neighbor who put a 3208 Cat into a brand new Ford F350. That turned some heads, since at that time I don't believe there were any diesel pick-ups being built. He and his wife took their camper up the AlCan highway with it one summer. Trouble free trip with excellent fuel mileage.
Best wishes to you.
