Is Nascar headed towards 4 cylinders? Or an all Ford and Toyota class?

Image is everything.

The image of a 454ci gasoline sucking torque monster seems a little out of place in the current financial and environmental scenarios. jmo, of course.

Nascar isn't in the business of selling cars, it is in the entertainment business. Either you go to a 100% technical showcase with green cars, hybrids and electric racing or you go big, loud and out of control.. the middle ground will go no where in term of entertainment.

The way I see it people are there to be entertained and to forget about reality for a little while. Besides, the 454ci would be a lot cheaper than any 4 cylinder with similar power and can last a whole race.

Oh ... I thought the subject matter in this thread was about current relevance. Never mind ...

NASCAR would be ruined if they went to four cyl i might as well be watchin all the ricers down the road from me if nascar goes to that.

i do think Kyle Busch has the potential to become the best driver in nascar that ever was, but how he presents himself needs some fine tunning.

School of Automotive Machinist is where its at and Junior, Logano, Stewart and Tommy Baldwin Racing are my go to guys on race day along with Keso in N’wide.

Manufactures are hurting nascar and nascar is hurting the manufactures. They need to split and have nascar use its own engine which they lease to teams. The manufactures just sponsor a team like a regular sponsor.

Manufactures continued technical support in nascar is a waste of tax dollars, imo.

Yes, that is the ONLY thing that will bring ticket buying customers. But I don't think there is anything inherently wonderful about 454s' But the V-8 sound is absolutely critical.

I imagine the first "green" race would bring in 1-2000 fans.

The second: uhh..............................

GM has announced today (7-8) that the company direction is entirely wrapped around Green cars with the first one a small car from China.
They also stated that the upper management staff is being trimmed by 35%.
The beginning of the end of V-8's at least at GM. Green Cars and V-8's don't go together...
Chrysler is headed in the same green direction with Fiat at it's helm, though Fiat still owns Ferrari, so V-8's are still possible, though they may have a prancing horse on them.
Ferrari's in Nascar, could happen with Chrysler painted on the valve covers....racing against Fords... sounds familar like the old days of Lemans, GT40 power against Ferrari's V -12's. (they do make V-8's, case you didn't know)

The excellent Aussie V8 racing series is a Ford/GM (Holden) series. The racing is excellent.

A two make series has proven to be successful elsewhere. The key is the racing. How good is the racing?

The Aussie V8 series is awesome! Wish we had it in the states, Trans Am is the closest thing to it, though with a little less HP and no TC...
