Is Nascar really stock car racing?

Technically, the cars have never been "stock". Savvy drivers used non-stock tires and shocks from day one. The percentage of stock parts has decreased ever since. So what? I watch to see the drivers battle it out with each other. I know what kind of car each driver represents. If it doesn't exactly match it's showroom cousin, I could care less. The competition is closer then ever and most of the teams have a pretty fair shot at a good finish or even a win. I have no desire to see someone repeat Ned Jarret's 14 lap lead to win a race. On top of that, there is no stock car in the world that can be modified enough to be anywhere near as safe as the COT or even the Nationwide and Camping World cars and trucks.

If I use a personal computer at work, is it really a "personal" computer? Shouldn't it be called a "work computer?"

My second favorite sport is football. No, not soccer.

Oh great! Now every water cooler is going to host arguments about why "personal computers" shouldn't be called "personal computers". No doubt some people will get so disgusted that they will stop using them and go back to pencil and paper, just like in the "Good Old Days"! smile

The moment the first piece was modified, cars were not stock. Even the rum runners blasting thru the back hills of the Carolinas weren't stock.
If it comes to July of 2009 that someone wants to suddenly claim the "stock cars" aren't stock, then I think they've ignored decades of evolution in stock car racing.

To address the second part of the question, No, it isn't racing either.

A personal computer
Is it really personal or a box with wires and chips
Can a piece of plastic and sand be personal
I guess if it could talk back to me it might be
At times I am not sure on how to cut and paste that is not personal
When I tap on the glass screen nothing happens I find that impersonal
It has never asked me my favorite color no less showed it to me
That is not to much to ask for, if it is personal and all
At times it takes me places that I do not want to go too
And then won't let me back that's not very personal
Anything it will do for me it will do for a total stranger
So I guess it's personal because I'm the one who bought it
But then what about the person who made it
It is probably more personal to them
I like roasting marshmallows but I don't have a fire to often
I guess next time I'll buy a Mac

How can nascar be stock car racing if all the cars are the same even though they're supposed to be different makes?...I guess it used to be stock car racing but not anymore. I have not seen any Toyota Camry or Ford Fusion on the streets with 8 cylinders engines or rear traction...So what kind of racing competition is nascar?...From what I see it is not stock car racing.

NASCAR cars are still more stock than Indy Cars and Formula 1 cars and ALMS prototypes.
