Background info for my question

I'm 19 years old and enrolled in a trade school to build high performance engines, I want a project to build while im at school so i decided to build a street stock circle track engine,

i know nothing about chasssis but i have found a community college in north carolina that teaches you basic set up and how to go about building a chassis. While looking on the internet about Chassis a "Metric Chassis" comes up.

Can anyone explane to me what a Metric Chassis is?

My only guess would be that it refers to the system of measurement used in the dimensions. A chassis built to inch specs might use, for example, 2" tubing, which is 50.8mm. In Europe they might use 50mm tubing instead because that's their standard. The dimensions of a metric chassis might just be optimised for the metric system.
Just a guess.
