It’s too bad the Wind Tunnel audience is nearly all just NASCAR fans

It's getting extremely annoying to have someone like David Hobbs as a guest, and just have NASCAR fans phoning in about their latest COT, Kyle Busch, and Dale Earnhardt Jr. crew chief gripes.
Doesn't the average Wind Tunnel fan know there are other racing series out there besides the NASCAR Sprint Cup series?
Can't wait to see everyone call in with their pressing questions and comments about Kyle Busch next week when Robin Miller hosts with AJ Foyt as the guest...
Next time Dale Earnhardt Jr. is interviewed, I'm calling in to ask him something about Formula One.

So, did your call to ask a question about a different racing series not get through, or did you just not call? Try looking at this as an opportunity to feel superior. Obviously NASCAR fans know so little that they have to continously ask questions, wheras fans of other series already know it all!

What other series has so many drivers that have so many passionate fans? How many IRL drivers make millions per year on just souvenirs? How many drivers of the various sports car series does very many people even know? Same with Formula 1. The general public has no idea.
That's, for the most part, the way it has always been. Many years ago, the Indycar type drivers were just as well known, but with the advent of such a high percentage of foreign drivers interest has dropped to almost zero. The foreign drivers were very popular as long as there were only 5 or 10 of them, but when they became 90% of the field, no one cared who won.
I am an old guy. My first racing interest was Formula 1, back in the early 1950's, specifically that year when, due to the lack of F1 cars, they ran Formula 2 cars for the world championship. In 1957, I saw my first NASCAR race. In 1959, I went to Sebring for the 12 hour race and heard my first Ferrari V-12 engines. Brought a tear to my eye as I had been a Ferrari worshipper for several years then. Went to Indy for the first time in 1960; went back in 1961 to see Jack Brabham in the first rear engine car, and back in 1963 to see Jim Clark and Dan Gurney in the rear engined Lotus-Fords.
In the intervening years, I have been to many, many, NASCAR races, mainly because they were fairly close by and easy for me to travel to. I think it was 2004 when two of my sons took me back to Indianapolis to see the Formula 1 race.
I watch all the F1 practice and qualifying, and races. I watch all of the IRL and NASCAR races.
I say all of the foregoing because I do not want to be classed as just a NASCAR fan, even tho I miss none of their races, and am sure there are many more people out there just like me, a fan of many different kinds of racing.

Actually, I believe most of the fans of the other series don't tune into wind tunnel anymore since all they ever do is talk about NASCAR. So its kinda of a vicious cycle I guess.

Why aren't you calling out the F1, Indy and sporty car fans? Seems your beef should be with them.
If I remember right, the vast majority of the show was Dave interviewing Hobbs and Brad Doty. Larry Mac had the "Last Call" which was like 7 minutes.

I watch a lot of forms of racing but Nascar is my favourite.
There have been many times when other forms have taken over Wind Tunnel.
I think that you missed the special on John Force.
You should join us in the chat room. We talk about a lot of different things.
I know a couple of regular chatters that could point you towards some great books and movies as well.
Mostly, it is a numbers game and ... majority rules.

TBayFinn, I think the love of other forms of racing among the Wind Tunnel production staff is quite evident from the production of the show and attempts to give other forms of racing the attention they deserve.
My posting is more of a reflection on the Wind Tunnel viewership that calls in each week, with 90% or greater of their questions and comments being related to the same 2-3 NASCAR subjects. The same things come up everyweek despite the subject of the program, individuals being interviewed, major news of the week, etc.
They could get Michael Schumacher on this program and most of the viewers would be calling in asking him questions and comments about Kyle Busch despite probably not even knowing who he is...
I think that is probably a large reason behind why they only seem to take 2-3 viewer calls these days, since many of the viewers tend to beat the same old tired subjects to death every Sunday evening rather than talk about anything else related to motorsports even when the production crew is obviousily trying to give coverage to some other forms of motorsports besides NASCAR.

I see they try to showcase other forms of racing, its just that the Nascar honks are all over the Speed channel cuz they were just watching the 30th Nascar program for the weekend the hour before. Lose some of the Nascar programming Speed. More Wind Tunnel. I would also like to see Dave more prominent on the Channel. Boo for Speed removing him from the Nascar highlight show on mondays. Steve Byrnes is a tool!

i consider myself a huge racing fan. i have seen the 500 and saw dale sr win at talladega but the nascar fan has so much more passion than indycar.... but they have nothing on lemans fans... saw what you will but when i went to la sarthe i had the time of my life..... as for speeds coverage of nascar is aweful... who cares what those idots think... ists like watching a plane crash in slow motion and nascars diehard fans are like the tifosi, their live revolve around a bad product.... if you put lipstick on a pig it is still a pig.... nascar is boring and the races are too long.... i do enjoy seeing more and more empty seats at the races!

Speed needs to spin off the NASCAR Channel. Then the hillbillys can concentrate on taxi drivers turning left and we can have Speed Channel back for real racing.
