What’s with the racing on HD Theater?

So I think it's pretty obvious to the fans of motorsport that SPEED is failing to offer us a diverse selection of racing.

This whole year I've noticed that HD Theater went from showing documentaries on nature, science, technology, and space to broadcasting car auctions, Production Car documentaries, Isle of Man, Race of Champions, and now WRC.

Now I am CERTAINLY not complaining as I welcome these changes, but why is Discovery now taking an interest towards Motorsport now?

Perhaps you might want to ask THEM?

Well after watching 5 hours of WRC coverage, I am pleased to say that I'm in love with HD Theater and I'm losing my interest towards SPEED faster and faster.

HD Theater is the best! Best picture and sound of all HD channels, imo.

I don't get why some people think that one channel should hold all motorsports properties. Speedvision didn't have this, neither did Speed nor ESPN and ESPN2. In my opinion there should be more motorsports spread out across different channels so that if there is a time conflict you can watch it on both channels. Not to mention the coverage will most likely be better since they would concentrate on the best coverage for that particular series rights they hold.

To paraphrase all of the responses that SPEED has given for replacing Racing with "Reality", I guess that Discovery HD doesn't care about profits. They must have tons of money to throw away with all that RACING programming.

HD Theater is now starting to show FIM world speedway grand prix. I loved it when speed showed that.

HD Theater is supposed to be rebranded as a motor themed channel called Velocity.

HD Theater is terrific. I had never seen the Isle of Man TT before am now hooked. Interestingly, if SPEED had the rights to it, I doubt we would see the camera work and in-depth reporting (although, HDT's telecast appears to be ITV.)

I have no idea what the story was with SPEED losing the Dakar, but when Versus got it and SPEED started showing Nascar and reality, I gave-up on it except for F1, ALMS and Supercars Exposed.

HDT? I'm hooked even if your program is British provided.

It may well be that they realize how much of Speed's viewing audience has, for all intents and purposes, defected over the length of time Speed has been obsessed with NASCAR and car-based reality shows and tuner programming. There is a market there to be tapped, however small it might be, a niche market but a market nonetheless.

And it fits their aim for intelligent programming for those with intelligence, which Speed hasn't shown any interest in in some time.
