the Flying Lizard Team should have this win taking away from them they drove the Vett to the wall and put the Driver in harms way!

That was an amazing race came down to the wire for the P1/P2 guys and GT2 class. The corvette is clearly the faster car and should have won. They made the #3 corvette give back the lead after he passed on the inside going over the pit out lane. This I would guess was because the officals thought it was a safety issue. Even though no one was coming out of the pits. The #3 was pulling away when he had to give the position back and then was being slowed down by the defensive driving of the Lizard. The Flying Lizard is a perfect name for a team that has to cheat to win. They tried 3 times to run the vette off the road on the last few laps. I enjoy GT2 racing because of the competitive racing teams but running a driver into the wall to stop him from passing you on the last straight is bad sportsmanship. I'm sure we are not the only people pissed off about this.

I agree. If they let this stand, it will be a black mark for the sport. The Corvette was pushed off the track twice coming out of the hair pin. Jorg has nothing to complain about. You can not reward a driver for running someone into the wall on the straight to crash him on purpose to win. Beside the fact that it is just too dangerous.

I posted this in a related thread in the same forum.....we need to contact ALMS:

I'm new to the forums and couldn't wait to get to the office today to try to find the email or contact info for ALMS and/or IMSA to let them know how angry I am regarding this incident. However, I couldn't find any accurate contact info. Anybody know who to contact?
I cannot believe that Bergmeister wasn't at least penalized 30-60 seconds for his actions on the track....THIS IS UNBELIEVABLE!!!!! Especially after the Corvette had to give the spot back after he made an "unauthorized pass", or whatever it was called, several laps earlier.
This race ran on Saturday and they should have made a decision that day......or at least yesterday (Sunday). As of this morning, not a peep from ALMS.
As a poster said above, this is indeed a black mark on this series. I went to 3 events this year (Sebring, St. Pete & CT) and if this is the type of race officiating we will see, then I guess I'll keep my money next year.
Who do we contact?

Both drivers were pushing each other quite a bit.

Jan Magnusson clearly rammed Bergmeister going into the last turn, and Bergmeister spun him as the Vette passed.

Both drivers should be penalized.

No rule says the slower car needs to pull over and give up the position. Blocking - i.e. swerving across the track in response to a competitor's passing attempt - is not allowed, but Bermeister merely chose lines that didn't give Magnusson room to get by except on the outside - which didn't work for the Vette.

Mags maybe should have backed off a bit, got a run, feinted outside, and if Bergmeister swerved, dove underneath to pass in the braking zone as the Vette had better braking and handling though the Porsche had top end (of limited use at Laguna.)

But both guys were banging and bashing and both guys deliberately hit the other going into and out of the final turn.

This kind of racing cannot be allowed, or every ALMS race will be a crashfest. And like WRECKIN above, if that's the kind of racing ALMS presents, I will watch a different series.

Not that a Corvette fan is going to care, but while the Corvette team was a part time contender this year, the flying Lizard Porsche was a championship contender. I cannot think of any other series where the sanctioning body would have permitted a part time team to be so aggressive against a championship contender in the last race of the year. In F1, NASCAR or the IRL, they would have asked the Corvette to back off a bit.

I'm not sure why you think that has anything to do with it.

Both drivers received two-race probations starting in 2010.

If they commit similar violations in the first two races (or longer), they will be banned for at least two races (or longer.)

A part time racer rough driving a championship contender is considered rather unsporting in most professional racing series. That's all.

If the 37 was not a full time team, I'd agree totally, but I know what you mean. When the RA incident happened, there was a lynch mob brewing wasn't there?
