The chase as it stands is a failure change it to a best eight out of ten races format and Montoya and others would still be in it.

Change it to a points-accumulated-over-the-season format, and all problems with the Chase solved.
The Chase is a product designed to create an illusion; it is an attempt to fool fans into thinking something special is happening, when in fact it is just the same people racing the same cars in the same series.
Some people take offense at attempts to fool them, and most simply aren't fooled.
BTW, what is "best 8 of 10"? Do you mean take the best eight finishes? How is that not even more contrived?

My son races Dwarf Cars and they have a best 10 of 12 races
they drop the points from your worst 2 races. As of today Montoyas bad race would nor affect him as only his best 8 races would count.

^ I've seen similar series which drop the top and bottom scores, which tends to weed out fluke wins and fluke losses.

That's it. I've had it over my head with this Chase! No disrespect to Jimmie Johnson, but I wanna see someone else win this championship! 184 points with 3 races left THIS IS INSANE!!! I wanna see a Chase that has all 12 drivers go tooth and nail to the wire in a winner-take-all season finale, NOT a Chase that sees the Championship clinched with a race to go. I can go Nationwide and Trucks if I wanna see that. Read my lips NASCAR, FIX THIS CHASE!!! This is unacceptable, I am embarassed to be a fan.
