there must not be too many people on here with any background in machining. it is possible now days to machine part's without coolant. done all the time. I have never read a blog with more hate and more misinformation in years. I have to imagine that about half a dozen or so have actually worked on a race team or turned a wrench or run a mill or lathe. the rest, computer freaks with too much time on their hands.

... if I understand the philosphy of USF1 correct, they try to do this on a very small budget and work with as many outside vendors as possible. I imagine that crash testing can be done in different ways and results may be good enough to anticipate whether they will suffice for FIA. In regard to machinery, if they have most done somewhere else, who cares what they can show in their facility? In this down-turn, it is easier to have someone make you a part, or changes to it on a spur of the moment. If the economy is hot, the problem is that those machines are all working 100% and no one will stop that for your hand full of parts. But now, machines are standing still. USF1 may not even be concerned to win, so anything they produce must not be optimized in interative (expensive) steps. They can be conservative with their design and get it done once (by a vendor). If they can "just" participate and keep costs low, they may well have a winning (profitable) team. If they can attract their own audience ... attract advertisment ... they can steal the show without winning. Also, winning is not always about being number one. If they do well against the other new teams, that is a win. If they do well within the group using Cosworth engines, that is a win ... etc.
I wish them well smile would love to visit them, they are only around the corner from me!

Huskyfrk ... problem is, when you work on metal, the piece gets hot. If you machine to exact specifications, one has dimensional problems if one does not cool the piece. You are right, it is not always done, but than not all pieces need it smile

For a change of pace this article claims Campos is trying to sell his team.

http://www.wheels.ca/Auto%20Racing/article/782837

another potential savior for Sauber...they're dropping like flies if you believe the story.

"A constant all week: Adrien Campos, who was awarded one of four new places on the grid for next season (along with Lotus, USF1 and Manor Grand Prix), was flying all over Europe trying to sell his team."

But here's some info to counter that:

http://www.motorsport.com/news/article.asp?ID=351439&FS=F1

"The reports said that at a recent FOTA meeting, all team bosses with the exception of USF1 sporting director Peter Windsor wanted to forbid teams from selling their official entries.".

Well the questions are:

Is Campos-Meta a member of FOTA ? Answer: Yes.

http://www.teamsassociation.org/

Is this report's statement true by verification ?: No.

But if it is true then that would mean Campos-Meta voted against teams being able to sell their entry and so, why would they contradict that publicly and look like idiots ?

Sorry but once again, the F1 entertainment media need to do their own homework before they "inform" (or misinform more like it) us.

PS Why would Adrien need to fly all over Europe , when all he has to do is fly to Hinwil ?

The reality is I found little in the quip about Campos or the writings that were posted about USF1 that had any semblance of the truth.

Both of them had no depth and were written in the classic style of quotes taken out of context. What the discussion was about as far as team sales by FOTA is not expounded on and as we have seen in the past with FOTA rumors a few days later it turns out there others involved.

The other misleading trail would be that FOTA has anything legally to do with the selling of a team. All the teams apply to the FIA for entry into the F1 championship and it's not even an implication to say that the FIA holds those cards. It makes the FOTA vote appear to be little more than an statement that they disapprove of forming and then selling a team but have no teeth to stop it if it happens. I guess you could be thrown out of FOTA but then again if you're thinking of selling you're already past that point. The FIA and the agreements in the concorde control what is essentially a commercial matter as the Toyota people are now working through as they end their relationship with F1.

Without knowing what the current Concorde agreement says we can't know what FOTA's say in the matter is but traditionally its been the FIA's call.

It's the old secret handshake boys club deal...you know, don't run KERS next yr even though the FIA has it on the books OK ? Agreed ? Agreed.

Don't sell to other teams OK (or you're not part of the
exclusive boys club) ? OK.

I wonder if the negative news about Campos came from the same 'news' that Ross Brawn got about USF1?

Since the assumed credible source is apparently generic 'news' when the story is in regards to USF1..

(Rather than news emanating from any specific source,) I would suspect that generic 'news' source is just as credible when it's a negative rumor about Campos.
